Books and eBooks
I've made available my recent Delphi handbooks
in PDF format. Follow links to buy the electronic version of
Delphi 2007 Handbook or
Delphi 2009 Handbooks.
You can buy one and add the other at a discounted price. Of course, both books are still avaialble
on Lulu.com and Amazon.com in the paper / printed version.
Now available on Amazon with ISBN 1440480095, the book (first published December 1st, 2008, on Lulu.com)
covers all the new features of Delphi 2009 for Win32, from Unicode support to generics, from
anonymous methods to other language enhancements, from new IDE features to the Ribbon control, from
Vista-enabled controls to DataSnap 2009. This is a brand new book, there is no overlapping
material with the Delphi 2007 Handbook!
More information, the list of chapters, the first 17 pages, and links for buying are at
www.marcocantu.com/dh2009.
There are now also the links for downloading the source code.
My Interviews
I've been interviewed by Jim McKeeth in
Episode 10 of his delphi.org podcast.
The Social Web: New Book, New Blog
I've written a book about online communities and started a companion blog.
While working for a related development project, I've written a book about online communities.
It is called "The Social Web:
An introduction to web 2.0 and its online communities". The book is on Lulu.com and sells for 14
Euros (printed) and 7 Euros (PDF).
I've also started a companion blog for the book, at
http://www.socialwebbook.com. I'll post portions of
the book in the blog, along with updated information. My plan is to keep the two blogs fairly separate
(although I'll occasionally cross-post), so if you are interested in online communities from a
non-developer point of view, you can subscribe that other blog as well.
Essential Pascal in Print (and on Amazon)
My online book Essential Pascal is
available in its 4th edition, the first also on paper. The first
printed edition of
Essential Pascal is available on Lulu.com for only Eur 16.50 (apparently
about 27 US dollars for Lulu). At the same link
(www.lulu.com/content/2398448),
you can also buy the electronic version (a PDF) for a mere Eur 6.50 (about 8 US
dollars).
The book has 140 pages and is focused on the core Pascal language (and not
its OOP extensions) as found in Delphi, with some references to differences or
similarities in Delphi for .Net, in Chrome, and in Free Pascal. From the
page "Essential Pascal is an introduction to the basic features of the
Pascal language, as found in Delphi and other modern development tools,
from the best selling author of Mastering Delphi."
Update (Jan 2009): The book is now also available on
Amazon.com for 29.50 USD.
www.delphimentor.com
Do you need help with your Delphi projects? Wintech Italia has opened an online Delphi Consulting and Mentoring Service coordinated by Marco and
featuring some of the gurus of the Delphi community. See for yourself, and signup for a refundable 3 months trial at:
www.delphimentor.com.
Delphi 2007 Handbook
In September 2007 I released my first self-published book covering all the new features in Delphi 2007 for Win32.
The book is "The guide to what's new in Delphi 2007 for Win32, from the best-selling author of the Mastering Delphi series".
It is available on Lulu at (about) 36.50$. Read more here.
Of Delphi Tools
Among a collection of tools by myself, which badly need to be reorganized, this site is now hosting also
interesting tools by other Delphi developers. The first is
vb2delphi by Albert Almeida.
Delphi and Embarcadero
Writing books on Delphi, giving training classes on the product and consulting on
project architectures has been my primary job over the past 10 years. Delphi is now part of
Embarcadero Technologies.
Delphi Search Engine and Mailing List
I've put online a new Delphi-tailored search engine,
www.thedelphisearch.com. Meanwhile, I've also
managed to move the mailing list for this site to Google Groups. If you signed up in the past, you'll
get an invite. If not, singup up here:
More Web Sites
Beside Delphi, what do I spend my time with? Web development, JavaScript, AJAX XSLT, XML, Web Services...
and many more buzzwords. The result of this, is the development (often in my spare time) of many web sites, often experimental.
Here is a tentative list:
BookStores: Thanks to Amazon Web Services, I'm hosting a bookstore,
with updated information and my comments on most of the books listed. These are all titles I recommend.
I've now set up a second bookstore with more titles on my blog domain,
Marco's Tech Books.
dev.newswhat.com: I'm running a newsgroup on his Italian site, which hosts also areas in English. The newsgroup NTTP access is free but requires a subscription.
You can also browse Marco's newsgroups along Borland's ones and many others on my site dev.newswhat.com.
delphi.newswhat.com is the older version of the same site, with many Delphi third party tools: delphi.newswhat.com (here you can create a free
account for posting messages and activating extra features (as creating your own favorite groups and threads).
My AJAX Site at ajax.marcocantu.com, with samples and documentation.
My Delphi Search site at www.thedelphisearch.com, with samples and documentation.
and many more I hope I'll have time to list here.
